(zaKOŃczenie)

We were greeted by the neighing, meowing, squeaking, croaking and whimpering of the inhabitants of the Stable under the Rainbow.

The guests were led by Miss de Gru, a Russian blue cat, a true aristocrat, who often came to our stable to gossip and to see the old tomcat, dividing his time between duties in the stable and basking in Granny Kasia’s house (Miss de Gru had a weakness for him, but the tomcat either did not reciprocate or did not want to flaunt it).

” Welcome,to the bride and groom, grrru,” she joked and cooed in her own way. – How was your walk? Did Miss Lucrezia get tangled up in the graceful gentleman’s rainbow braids?

– No! – I whinned and threw out my tongue, as if by accident.

– And the mosquitoes, please tell me? Did they bother you terribly?

“What’s  with the mosquitoes?” First Pepe, now her. Are they crazy? ” – I thought.

– They didn’t torment ?! Ah, that’s good, grrru. You see it works!

– What works?! – I did not understand.

– Miss de Gru. Please don’t interfere. I’ll bark it all out in a moment, Pepe promised.

We’re all ears.

– It was like this – began Pepek, who must have been tormented by some remorse. – Late in the evening, while lying in bed, Janeczka hunted a mosquito which was biting her hand. She said that tomorrow there will be a lot of them here, and that she knows a good way to get rid of them quickly so that they don’t bother the stables. In this way, she convinced me to participate in the night action!

– In action?

“Yes,” Pepe was barking more and more pitifully. – It was me who sneaked into Granny Kasia’s wardrobe and when she was sleeping soundly, I brought from there a few bundles of colorful yarns belonging to Janeczka. And then I laid down beside you and started humming your favorite lullaby. You know, the one that starts with “Woo, wau, wauuu, hauuu.” You then went into a deep sleep, like sleeping beauty.

– Niunio! Someone from a distance called out. – I have to tell you something! – It was Janeczka who had run into the stable and was a bit surprised by the general agitation.

– Oho … I think Pepe has already spilled the beans. And I wanted to tell you myself, that this rainbow … you know, the tail and the mane … that it’s all my doing.

The girl started stroking me, apologizing for probably scaring the hell out of me and embarrassing me amongst friends in the stable.

– In some fairy tale I read, that mosquitoes are afraid of the rainbows. I thought I’d braid your mane and tail into braids. And then I will attach braids made of colored yarn to them so that you look like a rainbow. The mosquitoes will be scared away and forced to leave us alone. It was supposed to be a spell for mosquitoes.

– So it’s a kind of spell! – I neighed.

Then all the horses in the stable started neighing. Most must have known the truth by now, because Pepe felt guilty and told them about Miss de Gru actions. And she (the biggest gossiper in the area) had spread the news.

– Poor Niunio! – Janeczka stroked my mane. – I’m gonna unravel it all out. And you’ll return to your old self, I promise!

– But you don’t have to! Lucrezia interrupted. – I like it so much.

– Well, I said from the beginning that … – Aunt Rhodesia was shooting her words out, but Uncle Cellophane cut her her neighing off and snorted merrily:

– It’s okay, Niuniek! Gimme a high hoof!

My mother Grandez, who was exceptionally silent today finally added. And I think,  I saw Janeczka’s action. From the morning I was giggling in the corner so as not to spoil everyone’s fun. But there is nothing to laugh about. It turned out stylish!

It is a pity that Janeczka did not understand our neighs. But that doesn’t mean she didn’t understand us.

–  You look lovely, Niunio!  However?! Are we going to leave tchem?!

And then once again a storm of joyful sounds broke out.

“From today you will be my rainbow,” Lucrezia neighed softly, and despite the commotion, I heard it anyway.

“And you are my princess …” I replied.

– Granny Kasia , who had just entered the stable, cheerfully ordered, „Come on kids, you know where your stalls are, in you go”.

– And have I told you that Lucretia will be staying with us for some time? She smiled and winked at me.

Yes, it had to be a spell! And not only “against mosquitoes” …
