Violet Glade
(Fiołkowa polana)
– It is so beautiful here! – Lucrezia neighed, when we reached the Violet Glade.
We came up with this name together: me and Granny Kasia. All right. It was first mentioned by Granny Kasia. But I am almost sure that I was the first that thought about it, but at the sight of the glade I was speechless and Granny Kasia beat me to it.
The name was anything but accidental.
“It’s not a glade at all,” Lucrezia screamed. – It’s a Violet Sea!
Unlike the world-savvy Lucrezia, I have never seen the sea. But I did see the pond. And indeed, walking out of the forest into the glade, one could think that we were standing on the shore, and in front of us there was a pond, and maybe a sea of violets.
Janeczka put a bundle in the middle of the glade, which she had taken from home. In a scarf, she brought some apples – for Lucrezia and me – and a few other delicacies – for herself and Grandma. Then she straightened the scarf to sit on it with Granny Kasia and start a picnic among the violets.
“Imagine, Niunio,” Lucrezia began, “that it’s not a scarf at all.” It is a magic raft floating in the calm Violet Sea. Beautiful …
– Beautiful … – I was about to say that she had put it beautifully, but my tongue got tangled and blurted out what I really had in mind: – You look beautiful …
“Holy smoke, did I really say that ?!” I panicked, surprised at my audacity and terrified of what Lucrezia would think of me. Will she think I acted rashly by making such confessions to an arabian princess on the first date?
Even my tongue was left hanging out of my mouth, which happened to me from time to time. That’s just who I was. I think it’s after my dad. Champion Lovet was known to proudly parade with his tongue out after each victory. My tongue, on the other hand, would hang from my mouth on its own whenever something surprised or scared me. And the worst of it is both. Back then, it not only jumped out, but also refused to obey and did not want to hide for anything. It was like that this time.
“Thank you, Niunio …” Lucrezia modestly lowered her head and the long white fringe again covered her rainbow eyes. “You too …” she added softly. – Even very …
– Vvvoray whhat? I asked indistinctly, trying to force my tongue back into place.
– Very nice. You look very nice, Niunio … – She looked into my eyes.
– Even with that rainbow tail? I waved it briskly. – And with this mane?
– I’ve never seen more beautiful. But before that, you weren’t missing anything – she added, lest I thought that I only charmed her with my new hairstyle.
“And I was worried you wouldn’t want to know such a rainbow stallion.”
“Dummy,” she neighed and poked me cheekily with her head.
Then someone emerged from the Violet Sea.
– Well, enough of this tenderness, kids – Pepe barked merrily.
– Were you spying on us? – I was indignant.
– Who me, “spying”? mee?. Someone must have been keeping an eye on you, so you don’t kick something on your first date, ‘he barked as he pushed his way through the violet waves.
– So that I do not kick your…… something …
– But Niunio! Lucrezia admonished me. And immediately she added: – Be careful he doesn’t bite you!
She didn’t know Pepek well, so she didn’t know a he wouldn’t even hurt a fly.
– Bitten or not bitten. For now, something is bothering me. It bites, drills and hurts… And I can’t sit still since the morning, I have to finally let it out.
– Do you feel butterflies in your stomach too? – I joked.
– Now it’s more mosquitoes … – he added mysteriously and assured us that when we return to the stables, he has to bark everything out for us.
…
